Can I submit a question?
Yes, but please read the disclaimer. If you communicate with me in connection with a matter for which I do not already represent you, you should not send me confidential or sensitive information via email because your communication will not be treated as privileged or confidential. If I answer a question on this web site, it is because I thought the question and answer would be helpful to other people and it does not mean that an attorney-client relationship has been established.

What are you going to cover on this web site?
The hospitality industry, by it nature, implicates many areas of law, for example, agency, intellectual property, torts, real estate, labor and employment, construction, securities regulation, liquor compliance, and finance, to name a few. Rather than provide a treatise on each subject, I will try to cover common topics from my practice that seem to come up over and over again. All information is provided in a clear and digestible manner. I will also try to provide information on new laws and regulations applicable to the industry.

Does this web site have a specific geographic focus?
Many of the laws addressed on this website are state-specific. Because I am located in Seattle, WA, there will be a primary focus on laws from the Northwest states (i.e., Washington, Oregon, Idaho). However, I will try to contrast differences in state laws were applicable and point out helpful third-party sites that focus on specific jurisdictions. Why are you blogging?
A few years ago, I began following several blogs that provide a wealth of easily digestible legal information on corporate governance, real estate finance, securities, finance, etc. I realized that there was no analog for businesspeople in the hospitality industry. In my experience, many questions are common, so I thought I would start blogging to disseminate what I know. Of course, where laws are evolving I am learning “on the fly.”

How often are you going to post?
I do not have a set schedule. I will try to address current events and post as my workload permits. I will aim for about twice a week. Writing some of these posts takes a significant amount of thought and time.

Did you write all of these posts yourself?
Yes. However, I have recycled some client alerts and other memos at times. I plan to also have a couple of guest posts.

What if I think one of your answers is wrong or misleading?
Please let me know. I will revise the answer accordingly.

Did you set up this blog by yourself?
Yes. I think I am technically proficient (for an attorney), though you may recognize changes I make to the site’s formatting as my abilities progress. Please let me know if you have suggestions for how to make the site more usable.
